The CSIR (icomtek) team recently implemented a successful
ICT for Economic Empowerment project in the North West community
of Pomfret.
The community showcased some of the milestones in
the progress towards sustainable economic development during a launch
event, which was held on 15 July 2002. A number of key role players
including the MEC for Safety and Liason, Eskom, CSIR and other stakeholders
formed part of this special event.
The community has seized the opportunities offered
by ICT's to explore further economic opportunities and has identified
as potential enterprises an SADC ICT Hub, expansion of a Game Park,
development of a cultural village and cultivation of Devil's Claw,
a root with homeopathic actives for pharmaceutical applications.
