Training

The focus of the initial CSIR training had been on equipping and empowering the Itsoseng MPCC/ICT Hub members in their communities to build up the necessary computer and business skills to be able to integrate the use of computers into learning and business opportunities.

The training was expanded to involve four Itsoseng MPCC members in computer training for MOUS certification. The training was done in Pretoria during the week of 6-10 May 2002. A further two candidates were presented for A+ certification.

Itsoseng business plans

The following business plans were presented to possible funders as part of an ongoing process of trying to make the MPCCs financially sustainable:

  • Running the Itsoseng MPCC as a business addressing the PC training, business skills, desktop publishing and content creation needs.
  • Using a Digital Camera, Laminator, Guillotine and Binding Machine for extending the services of the MPCCs to cater for the communities needs.
Content creation activities

The following web sites have been created by delegates attending previous content creation training sessions:

  • Personal Websites
  • Itsoseng MPCC Website

Technological infrastructure provided in the Itsoseng area

In addition to the PC's (Pentuim III), various software and combined printer, fax, scanner and copier that were provided to the Itsoseng MPCC in 2001, the CSIR provided an additional five Pentuim PC's and a Training Network to the Itsoseng MPCC in the period January to June 2002.

Other development actions
  • The Itsoseng Community has their own customized Internet and e-mail addresses namely: www.itsoseng.cda.co.za
  • GSM technologies have been used to provide e-mail services to the Itsoseng Community (mail@itsoseng.cda.co.za).

Not only has the Itsoseng MPCC staff successfully applied the skills obtained at the training sessions to implement Internet access in their MPCC to provide Internet services to the community, but they have also, without help from the Project Team, compiled a series of computer training manuals, which have been implemented for training of Itsoseng residents.
