Welcome to Pateka Binase's Home Page

The village of Lower Seplan, a remote area, in the North Eastern side of Lubisi Dam, is one of the best places to live in. It is a place where people enjoy sunrise throughout the day until sunsets. In the morning you will see and hear shepherds yelling at each other for their father's herds of cattle to graze in the veld. You will see children chatting and laughing as they go to the big white painted building, crossing fingers at what their teacher is to say as they have not finished their homework. This is the place where I was born.

Background

I am Pateka Binase, first daughter of Loudy Lungile and Ntuthu Binase. I was born on the 25th of June 1970 at Lower Seplan village. I grew up living with my parents. My grandmother also lived nearer our two bedroomed house. Being a teacher, my father used to wake up very early for school, leaving me with my mother. She was a housewife at that time and enjoyed her stay at home with her baby daughter. This I could tell by the way neighbours and other people liked to put me in their hands and comment about how healthy and beautiful I was. So my childhood years were the best.

Time for schooling arrived. I had to change schools from time to time because my father was always transferred. My mother got sick and stayed at her home in Ngxumza village. I did Sub "a" at Lubisi Primary School where my father was a teacher. My father would let me sit on the floor next to him and the chalkboard as he was teaching, since I hated sitting behind the desk. That is how I developed the love for teaching.

Tabisa, a second child was born shortly after me, and while I was doing Std 8 she was in STD 7 .We had to go back to our home country, Transkei and attended a boarding school .In 1988 I went to college to do a teacher’s course for 3 years. In 1991 I started teaching, following in my father's path at the age of 21. I am still teaching at the moment and happily single.
