Summary

The CSIR's division of Information Communications Technology, icomtek, has formed a number of successful partnerships with rural communities in "narrowing" the digital divide.

One such community is Vryburg, which lies in the North West Province of South

Africa and is typical of many such communities that are deprived of access to information.

With funding from DACST, the CSIR has piloted an innovative communications infrastructure and community service centers in support of local economic development in the Vryburg area
